Movies about making wine

Hello and good morning – this is Cybersurf – an interlude on the internet. I am Steven Lang, your Cyberhost – this week with a glass of wine.

Or more specifically with wine films – a rather unusual website that can be found at Wine films dot co dot za.

The full name of the site is Wine films South Africa – Visual business. It describes itself as an attempt to collate and make available all of the wonderful films that J Productions have made of South African farms – forty of them to date.

But let us rather hear Iain Anderson describe his project:

IN: Currently there are 33 . . . .

OUT: . . . . to somebody overseas.

That was Iain Anderson of Wine Films South Africa a fascinating site if you are at all interested in wine production – but be warned, you do need a good broadband connection to be able to view the films comfortably.

And that wraps up your web site review for today – please tune into Cybersurf next week for more on the best of the web.

Government Information Technology Officers Council

Hello, Good morning and welcome to another edition of Cybersurf – an essential briefing on internet news. I am Steven Lang.

In recent weeks we have devoted the last two editions of this program to e-government – today we speak to the recently appointed chair of the council that is supposed to oversee many e-government functions.

GITOC is an acronym for the Government Information Technology Officers Council – a body created to serve as an IT co-ordination and consolidation vehicle in government

I spoke to Mmamathe-Makhekhe Mokhuane and asked her – what is e-government for:

IN: I think the main objective . . .

OUT: . . . at the end of the day

Mmamathe-Makhekhe Mokhuane the newly appointed Chairperson of GITOC.

While doing research for this program, I immediately thought I’d check out the GITOC web site – but guess what?

There isn’t one.

To find out more about this body that is essentially coordinating e- policy, you need to go to the web site of the department of Public Service and administration.

The site is at DPSA.gov.za – and once you get there you have to dig around.

Ms. Mokhuane did tell me however, that her council is working on a new web site.

So thats it from me, please tune in again next Wednesday for more Cybersurf.

Broadband tender for Joburg

Hello good morning and welcome to Cybersurf – a Wednesday morning update on what’s happening on the Internet. I am Steven Lang.

And this week we hear about the City of Johannesburg’s plans to set up its own broadband network. At the end of last month, the city launched a Request for Information process for the broadband network project. And to explain what it’s all about: Douglas Cohen of the City’s Department of Economic Development.

IN: It’s basically there . . . .

OUT: . . . . to those areas.

DUR: 2’27”

Douglas Cohen of Joburg’s Department of Economic Development explaining plans for a city wide broadband network.

In my view, any initiative that will offer cheaper rates that Telkom is a good thing.

So until the network is up and running, I’ll say my good byes until next week when I’ll invite you for more Cybersurfing....
