Broadband tender for Joburg

Hello good morning and welcome to Cybersurf – a Wednesday morning update on what’s happening on the Internet. I am Steven Lang.

And this week we hear about the City of Johannesburg’s plans to set up its own broadband network. At the end of last month, the city launched a Request for Information process for the broadband network project. And to explain what it’s all about: Douglas Cohen of the City’s Department of Economic Development.

IN: It’s basically there . . . .

OUT: . . . . to those areas.

DUR: 2’27”

Douglas Cohen of Joburg’s Department of Economic Development explaining plans for a city wide broadband network.

In my view, any initiative that will offer cheaper rates that Telkom is a good thing.

So until the network is up and running, I’ll say my good byes until next week when I’ll invite you for more Cybersurfing....
